Core Retail Sales m/m (CAD)

April sales rose 0.9% to $60.7 billion. Six of eleven subsectors, or 43.3% of retail sales, grew, headed by general merchandise shops (+4.2%). Excluding gas stations and auto-parts outlets, fundamental retail sales rose 1%.

Monetary Policy Meeting Minutes (Australia)

Members started discussing overseas concerns by noting rising prices in April and May and uncertain global growth. Many central banks and economists project headline inflation will peak and surpass objectives until next year.

Consumer Price Inflation (GBP)

CPIH climbed 7.9% from April to May 2022, up from 7.8% in April. Housing and household services (2.79 percent) and transportation (1.50 percent) contributed the most to May 2022 CPIH inflation.

Consumer Price Index (Canada)

Inflation in Canada jumped 7.7% year over year in May. This was the greatest annual rise since January 1983. The CPI grew 6.3% year over year in May, after rising 5.8% in April.

German Flash Services PMI (EUR)

Latest ‘flash’ PMI® data from S&P Global showed a sharp loss of momentum in the German economy at the end of the second quarter.

UOM Consumer Sentiment (USD)

In June’s final reading, the University of Michigan’s Consumer Sentiment Index fell to 50 from 50.2. The lowest print ever. The Current Conditions Index declined to 53.8 in June from 63.3 in May, while the Consumer Expectations Index fell to 47.5 from 55.2.

AUD And NZD Have Turned Down Sharply (All)

AUD/USD, NZD/USD, EUR/USD, and cable fall. Higher USD/CAD. As USD/JPY falls near 134.50, yen crosses are impacted. On Sunday evening, US market index futures were weak. On Friday, US trade was positive, but the optimism was fading.
